If you are a fan of impact drivers but
not the standard bits that tend to break when used with impact tools,
Bosch may have a better solution for you. The company is introducing
an extensive line of Impact Tough™ accessories specifically
designed to handle the increased torque and stress associated with
impact driver applications. The new accessories include screwdriving
bits in Phillips, Square and Torx forms and in both insert and power
bit styles. Bosch says the bits feature a "torsion zone" that
absorbs torque peaks and reduces stress at the tip. The forged tip
reduces breakage, which creates a clean and precise impact on the
surface. And a hardened core increases the strength of the bit,
reducing the chance of fracture in high-torque applications.
The line also includes Impact Tough Nut
Setters in 1/4- to 7/16-in. sizes with larger magnetic holders for
improved holding power. The company also will offer Impact Tough
Sockets, which support pin socket adapters and socket retainer rings.
The sockets are sized to accommodate 5/16- to 15/16-in. fasteners,
and you can buy them in either 3/8- or 1/2-in. drives. Bosch adds
that they are the only impact-rated sockets on the market that meet
the rigorous ANSI B107.2 impact standard.
Finally, if your projects include sheet
metal, Bosch is also offering Impact Tough Hole Saws in various
diameters. Their key features include a thin-walled design for fast,
clean cutting, depth-stopping rims that prevent breakthroughs and a
pilot bit spring to eject the inner metal disk after cutting.
Bosch is introducing the new Impact
Tough line in stores first as bulk bit sets, which include a General
Purpose Impact Screw Driving Set (18 insert bits, 7 power bits, 1
bit holder, 3 nut setters and 1 socket adapter) and a 21-piece
Insert Bit Set (20 insert bits and a bit holder). The Impact
Tough Hole Saws will be available in various sizes early this summer.
Socket availability has not yet been announced.
